چکیده

Background Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) in Lewy body diseases, including dementia with bodies (DLB) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) dementia, occur frequently at an early stage progression. Such are significantly associated quality of life, caregiver burden functional limitations. Limited evidence exists, however, outlining the relationship between NPS cognitive decline. Methods Data from 217 participants were derived three cohort studies. Patients diagnosed either MCI (MCI-LB, n = 67), PD-MCI (n 56) or Alzheimer’s (MCI-AD, 39) a group healthy older adults 55) completed comprehensive neuropsychological neuropsychiatric assessment followed up longitudinally for median years. identified baseline by Inventory (NPI) included as predictors linear regressions mixed effects models to assess performance on range tests both longitudinally. Results At baseline, most prevalent severe among MCI-LB (49% NPI score >4 least one symptom) controls (7% >4). Total was not related function any domain group. Greater total steeper rates decline patients measure processing speed (p .01). Among adults, only sleep disturbance global cognition .005). None patient groups showed association individual function. Conclusions The lack significant found seen suggests that this prodromal disease, appear be limited clinical impact indicates mechanisms may differ disease. Future work will investigate these using multimodal imaging data cohort.

Predicting disease progression in Alzheimer's disease: the role of neuropsychiatric syndromes on functional and cognitive decline.

Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) have heterogeneous rates of disease progression. The aim of the current study is to investigate whether neuropsychiatric disturbances predict cognitive and functional disease progression in AD, according to failure theory. We longitudinally examined 177 memory-clinic AD outpatients (mean age = 73.1, SD = 8.1; 70.6% women). Neuropsychiatric disturbances at ...

Neurochemical markers do not correlate with cognitive decline in the Lewy body variant of Alzheimer disease.

BACKGROUND Reductions in neocortical synapses and cholinergic function occur in patients with Alzheimer disease (AD) and in patients with the Lewy body variant of AD (LBV). The relation between these losses and cognitive decline has been reported frequently in patients with AD but remains unclear for patients with LBV. OBJECTIVES To investigate the relation between clinical markers of disease...

One hundred and twenty-four patients with DSM-III-R dementia were assessed with a standardized battery which included the Geriatric Mental State Schedule, the History and Aetiology Schedule, the Secondary Dementia Schedule and the CAMCOG. Patients with Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia and senile dementia of Lewy body type (SDLT) all had a similar degree of cognitive impairment at the time...
